Escape attempt lands inmate more prison time

Following a jury trial in Sumner County Criminal Court, Assistant District Attorneys Dan Daugherty and Eli Freeman secured a conviction against Elvis Shawn Bush, age 43, of Hendersonville, for felony escape, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.

Bush was indicted by a Sumner County grand jury in April 2024, after an investigation by the Sumner County Sheriff’s Department revealed that Bush, along with two other inmates, escaped from the Sumner County Jail while they were serving a sentence in the facility. Bush was apprehended shortly after he escaped and the other escapees were also recaptured. At the time of the escape, Bush was incarcerated and facing drug charges, according to court records.

Escape is a Class E felony which carries a maximum punishment of six years in prison. Bush is scheduled to be sentenced by Criminal Court Judge Dee David Gay on Aug. 4, 2025…
