NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – More than 860 pounds of litter was removed from the Cumberland River on Saturday, according to David Whiteside with Tennessee Riverkeeper.
Whiteside said 15 people attended the cleanup in West Nashville. During the cleanup, 12 tires, 11 bags of trash and one bag of recyclables were removed from the Cumberland. Large debris from construction and demolition waste was also removed, totaling 863 pounds.
“There is no easy solution to plastic pollution. We do know that preventing plastics from entering waterways is an obvious solution, and it is easier to remove garbage from the shorelines and shallow water of creeks and rivers.
