City of Nashville begins final phase of clearing Old Tent City, eyes pod shelters next

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The city of Nashville is expected to move forward Monday with the final cleanup of “Old Tent City,” a longstanding homeless encampment along the Cumberland River, as part of a broader initiative to transition unsheltered residents into safer, more structured housing options.

Crews are expected to be on site throughout the day clearing the last of the encampments, marking the culmination of an effort that began months ago. The focus now shifts to where those displaced will go next.

One option the city is rolling out: Portable “pallet pods.” Originally purchased during the COVID-19 pandemic for quarantine purposes, these units are now being repurposed to serve as temporary shelters for individuals who are unable or unwilling to use traditional group housing…
