A Lawrence County man is facing multiple charges related to sexual exploitation and rape after a tip led authorities to uncover his alleged abuses. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Squad, with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations and Nashville International Airport police, arrested Juan Carlos Barturen on May 31st following an investigation spurred by a cybertip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC).
According to the TBI Newsroom, the cybertip they received last Friday contained details from a woman about her sexual exploitation and abuse as a minor, leading to the identification of Barturen, born on October 16, 1978, as the perpetrator. Investigations revealed that Barturen had committed multiple acts of rape and sexual exploitation against the victim. Barturen is now charged with two counts of Statutory Rape by an Authority Figure, one count of Soliciting Sexual Exploitation of a Minor/Exploitation of a Minor by Electronic Means, and one count of Especially Aggravated Sexual Exploitation of a Minor.
After his arrest at Nashville International Airport, authorities booked Barturen into the Lawrence County Jail. He currently remains in custody without bond, as the investigation continues. The TBI has encouraged anyone with additional information or who may also be a victim to come forward and contact them via their tip line or email…
