1 charged after shootout during funeral wake in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A 49-year-old man was taken into custody after a shootout amid a funeral wake south of downtown Nashville Monday evening.

Officers were called to a home on Fairfield Avenue Monday night after bullets flew during a family gathering.

According to Metro police, Aterrius Smith was told to leave the wake after arguing with family inside the home. He came outside and began to cuss at the victim, who reportedly told him to leave since he was being disrespectful.

Smith told the victim he would “be back, I’ve got something for you,” but the victim did not take him seriously and resumed playing with children outside. Smith came back to the home with a black handgun though the victim was able to convince him to leave again, according to court documents…
