Surge in Guns Stolen from Vehicles Concerns Nashville Police, 74% of Firearms Theft from Autos

Nashville’s issue with guns stolen from vehicles continues to surge as data released by the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) shows a worrying trend in firearm thefts. Currently, a stark majority of 74% of all stolen firearms in Davidson County this year were nabbed from autos, adding up to a staggering 466 guns out of the total 628 reported stolen. This seemingly preventable mode of gun loss is eclipsing last year’s figure around the same time which saw 385 firearms taken from cars, as detailed by Nashville.gov.

Local authorities are stressing the importance of vehicle security, urging residents to lock their cars, secure valuables, and remove their keys, a simple precaution often ignored, leading to more than just stolen property, but the tools that could perpetrate violence now loosely in the hands of criminals.
