MNPD arrests man accused of fleeing in stolen car, injuring another driver

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) β€” The Metro Nashville Police Department announced the arrest of a man who allegedly fled from detectives in a stolen car.

MNPD detectives reportedly saw a white Infiniti Q50 with a fake temporary tag and a broken sunroof near Georgia Court Wednesday night. Police discovered the car had been stolen outside of Davidson County on June 11. When MNPD detectives tried to initiate a traffic stop, they said 25-year-old Jonathan Mercer fled down 14th Avenue North β€œat a high rate of speed.”

As Mercer approached the Church Street intersection, the MNPD said he ran a red light and struck another vehicle. At that point, Mercer reportedly got out of the car and started to run from detectives; he was taken into custody shortly thereafter.

Police said they discovered a second temporary tag underneath the fake tag, which came back to a Kia Rio. Mercer has been charged with aggravated reckless driving, theft of property, resisting arrest and both misdemeanor and felony evading arrest among other charges.
