Patient shares ALS journey to inspire support for Vanderbilt ALS Research Center

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A new clinic at Vanderbilt University Medical Center is a ray of light for patients like Louis Del Re.

The 32-year-old Toronto resident calls himself “Lou” and was engaged for just a month before learning his strange symptoms were pointing to something extremely serious — ALS.

“My first symptom was that whenever I drank a beer or two, I would start slurring excessively,” said Del Re. “Then I started developing a dry cough and difficulty speaking, and then I started getting weakness in my hands and twitching in my arms.”…
