In the 2024/25 school year, more than a quarter of Nashville’s public schools experienced arrests related to threats of mass violence, mirroring a growing national trend.
This increase follows a crackdown by lawmakers on students making school threats, prompted by two deadly Nashville school shootings in less than two years. It also comes as police are increasingly scrutinizing social media and investigating more allegations.
Overall, 41 kids and adults were arrested and accused of making violent threats against 42 elementary, middle and high schools in the Metro Nashville Public Schools system this past school year, according to police data.
