NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — The Metro Nashville Council unanimously approved legislation this week aimed at making the city’s growingly competitive housing market more affordable, by allowing for a new type of apartment building design known as “smart stair reform.”
The legislation clears the way for smaller, more efficient apartment and condo buildings featuring just one staircase—designs previously prohibited under existing building codes. The new construction model is expected to reduce housing costs and allow more modern, human-scaled housing developments across the city.
