MNPS agreed to $6.5M settlement in wrongful dismissal lawsuit

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Metro Nashville Public Schools is preparing to pay out what is believed to be the largest legal settlement in district history, approximately $6.5 million, to resolve a long-running lawsuit filed by five former administrators who alleged retaliation by Superintendent Dr. Adrienne Battle.

The MNPS board is expected to vote on the agreement Tuesday, the same day the case was set to go to trial. The lawsuit was originally filed in 2020, with additional complaints consolidated into the case over several years. According to sources, the $6.5 million settlement will cover lost wages, future economic damages, and other claims, some of which fall outside the standard $300,000 cap for damages in such cases…
