Metro School Board approves $6.5 million settlement, sparking concerns after closed vote

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A record-breaking $6.5 million settlement approved by the Metro Nashville Board of Education is raising serious questions about accountability and transparency within the district.

The unanimous 9-0 vote took place behind closed doors, with no public discussion before or after the vote. When FOX 17 news asked the school board to explain the decision or clarify whether disciplinary measures were being considered, every school board member declined to comment, directing all questions to the district’s spokesperson.

When pressed about the absence of disciplinary action following the settlement, MNPS spokesperson Sean Braisted stated:
