Family of Nashville woman killed in shooting seeks help laying her to rest

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A week after a woman was shot and killed in South Nashville, her family has said that the pain still feels like an open wound — one they can’t close without help from the community.

Detectives with the Metro Nashville Police Department charged 42-year-old Nerika N. Patton with the death of 50-year-old Shereca M. Waters. They said the two women got into a physical fight along Fain Street on Sept. 2 when Patton pulled out a gun and opened fire, hitting Shereca.

Detectives said Patton, a convicted felon, should not have had a firearm. They believe she tried firing multiple times before fleeing and dropping the weapon into the Cumberland River. Waters was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she later died.
