Driver lied about being robbed at gunpoint on I-24 in La Vergne, police say

LA VERGNE, Tenn. (WKRN) — An incident that led to a driver being robbed at gunpoint along I-24 earlier this year never happened, according to authorities.

On Aug. 26, the La Vergne Police Department alerted the public about an armed robbery that occurred on I-24 between Sam Ridley Parkway and Waldron Road.

The victim allegedly told officers that a black Toyota sedan brake-checked him and threw eggs onto his windshield, and when he pulled over to the right shoulder, the occupants inside the Toyota got out and robbed him at gunpoint.

Following the incident, the police department asked the public for video footage and additional information. Now, after a through investigation, detectives say they can now confirm that the incident “did not occur.”…
