Prosecutors consider upgrading charges in brutal attack on 70-year-old Nashville woman

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Prosecutors may upgrade charges in a brutal attack on a 70-year-old Nashville woman who was walking home from work.

The victim, who works part-time at the Ryman Auditorium, was beaten so badly she needed an emergency hip replacement. She has asked not to be identified because she is terrified and still going through months of rehabilitation.

Investigators say Pablo Arias is accused of jumping out from the bushes and karate-kicking the woman in the chest. She fell hard, suffering a concussion and a broken hip. Arias then walked away, leaving behind his glasses and phone.

At the time of the attack, Arias was charged with simple elder abuse, a Class E felony punishable by one to three years in prison. He was released on $500 bond…
