Airbnb deploys ‘anti-party system’ to deter Halloween bookings in Nashville

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Short-term rental company Airbnb is launching “advanced anti-party technology” across the United States to deter the rental of properties for Halloween parties.

According to Airbnb, 300 people were deterred from booking an entire home listing in Nashville for Halloween in 2024. Approximately 38,000 people were blocked from booking across the United States along with 6,300 people in Canada.

The Airbnb anti-party defenses use machine learning to help prevent potentially higher-risk bookings of entire home listings from being made, according to a release. The system looks for signs of a potential party risk, such as the length of the reservation, the distance of the listing from the guest’s location, property type and timing of the booking, including last-minute requests.

Guests attempting to book will either be blocked or redirected to alternative accommodations…
