Metro leaders plan to clean up Bell Road underpass, secure housing for those living there

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — After three years of discussions and planning, the Bell Road underpass will finally see some cleanup work completed very soon.

Metro Councilmember for District 32 Joy Styles, whose district includes the site, gave an update regarding the people facing homelessness at the underpass along Bell Road under Interstate 24. This week, she met with the Tennessee Department of Transportation, the Office of Homeless Services and Commander Carlos Lara of the Metro Nashville Police Department’s Southeast Precinct.

The group formulated a plan to clear the area and provide housing for all individuals living there. Once individuals are moved into housing, district leaders will focus on cleaning up the area. Styles said she knows everyone in her district is concerned. Before changes could be made, though, she said the new precinct needed to open.

“I know that is three weeks from now. I know it is an eye sore.
