Mayor Freddie O’Connell provides update on The ‘Music City Loop’

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Work continues on The Boring Company’sMusic City Loop.

Mayor Freddie O’Connell addressed questions Friday about how the city will handle emergency responses once the roughly 9.5-mile long tunnel connecting the downtown core to the Nashville International Airport opens. He explained that Clifton Peay, the Director of Performance Management at the Nashville Mayor’s Office, has been working alongside William Swann, the Director Chief of Emergency Management, to lead what he called effectively “a pre-development task force.”

Some people have expressed safety concerns about the 30-foot deep tunnel and there are questions about how first responders will access emergencies, but O’Connell said he and other Metro leaders have been working to make sure that visitors and Nashvillians alike stay safe.

“That’s why our Office of Emergency Management is involved,” O’Connell said. ” We want to make sure that if this is operating, even if it on state right-of-way within the City of Nashville, that Nashvillians can be assured that life safety issues have been handled effectively — not just during construction and implementation, but during operation as well.”
