Nashville renters face approval hurdles despite national settlement on rent practices

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — A national settlement changing how one of the country’s largest landlords sets rent may impact thousands of Tennessee renters, but some say the biggest challenge isn’t the price, it’s getting approved.

Singer-songwriter Ashley Watkins has lived in Nashville for five years. She freelances full time and says despite rent specials and new apartment construction; there’s a barrier many artists and gig workers can’t overcome.

“Our income doesn’t come from one source,” she said. “It’s been very difficult even to get approved.”…
