Vanderbilt engineering school receives $30 million from alumni couple

Vanderbilt University in Nashville has announced a $30 million gift from alumni John Addison (BE ’01) and his wife, Shannon (BS ’02), in support of efforts to expand and improve its School of Engineering.

The award will serve as a lead gift for the university’s $300 million Power the Impossible campaign to help position the engineering school among the “world’s most influential, impactful, and recognized” programs. To that end, Vanderbilt will engage in a strategic recruitment effort to draw as many as 55 new faculty to the school and has committed to increasing enrollment by more than 25 percent with the goal of graduating 300 engineers annually by 2030. The university will also expand and modernize the school’s learning and research facilities and construct new student housing.

To date, the campaign has raised a total of $135 million, including a $16.5 million award from the A. James & Alice B. Clark Foundation, and an $11.2 million commitment from Laurel and Cliff Asness…
