Nashville Shelters Extend Hours for Unhoused Residents as Winter Chill Sets In

As colder winter conditions approach in Nashville, local shelters are adjusting operations to serve individuals experiencing homelessness. The Metro Emergency Overflow Shelter has expanded its hours, opening at 7 p.m. yesterday and remaining open in the days ahead to provide uninterrupted shelter.

With temperatures expected to fall below freezing, the Metro Emergency Overflow Shelter may operate for extended periods. According to a statement from Nashville and Davidson County, the overflow shelter is activated under a seasonal protocol in place from November 1 through March 31, when temperatures are forecast to reach or fall below 32°F for three consecutive hours.

The initiative involves coordination among several local organizations that provide shelter services for individuals experiencing homelessness. Participating organizations include the Nashville Rescue Mission, Room In The Inn, Launch Pad, and Oasis.
