WSMV4 strengthens anchor lineup with changes, addition

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) -WSMV4, Nashville’s NBC affiliate, owned by Gray Media, Inc., announced today an anchor lineup change that moves a familiar face to the mornings and brings a local favorite back to Middle Tennessee television. This change comes as the station continues to strengthen its commitment to local news coverage.

Beginning January 5th, 2026, Marius Payton will expand his role at WSMV4 by joining the station’s morning news team, bringing his Nashville-market experience and commitment to telling local stories to the news desk. Payton has served the Middle Tennessee community for the past four years and will join Holly Thompson as Co-Anchor of WSMV4 News Today. He will also report in the field following the morning shows.

“I am really excited about this new move to mornings, and I can’t wait to wake up and spend my mornings with our loyal viewers. On a personal note, it allows me to spend more time with my family. It’s a win-win,” Payton said.

With this transition, local favorite Hunter Hoagland will join WSMV4’s evening news team. Hunter returns to Nashville television after one year and brings his experience covering Middle Tennessee news.

“I’m incredibly excited to join the outstanding team at WSMV,” Hoagland said. “Nashville has been home for years, and it’s an honor to continue serving this community by telling the stories that matter most. I can’t wait to begin this new chapter and connect with viewers in a fresh, meaningful way.”…
