Teen arrested after valet shot outside Nashville hotel

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A teenager has been charged with multiple offenses — including attempted homicide — following a shooting outside of a Nashville hotel that injured a valet employee earlier this month, with investigators saying the motive was a “road rage-related argument.”

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, the shooting happened shortly after 1:45 p.m. on Dec. 5 as the 26-year-old victim was helping a customer to a vehicle outside the Virgin Hotel on Music Square West.

As the valet closed the door and walked away, the driver of a Kia Optima allegedly called out to the employee about him being in the road. Following a “brief verbal exchange,” authorities said the Kia driver pulled out a pistol and fired a shot, hitting the victim in the left thigh.

A Midtown Hills Precinct officer realized the Kia closely resembled the getaway vehicle from a porch pirate package theft, so he shared that information with investigators, officials said. Thanks to that lead, Specialized Investigation Division detectives arrested a 16-year-old at a North Nashville apartment complex on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

According to law enforcement, the teen’s backpack contained a semi-automatic pistol with a tan extended magazine, which matched the description of the gun used in the shooting. That firearm had been reported stolen in a November 2022 vehicle burglary on 4th Avenue South…
