Tennessee DUI law brings harsher penalties, roadside drug testing

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A new Tennessee law taking effect Thursday increases penalties for repeat DUI offenders and gives law enforcement officers a new roadside testing tool to screen for drugs.

The legislation introduces oral fluid testing, which allows officers to use cotton swabs to test for drug impairment during roadside sobriety checks. The new law allows for the results from this test to be used as evidence in court.
