Nashville hit-and-run crash kills woman, critically injures man on New Year’s Eve

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Metro Nashville Police are searching for a red or maroon car that flew onto a sidewalk and struck two people outside a New Year’s Eve party, killing one and critically injuring another.

The crash happened around 1:30 a.m. New Year’s Day outside Pecker’s Bar and Grill along Hermitage Avenue as 23-year-old Afriye Seegars and 24-year-old James Stephens were getting into a rideshare vehicle.

Seegars, who went by Smooth Sexton in the drag community, was thrown to the other side of the parking lot and died at the scene. Stephens hit a bus stop sign and remains in critical condition at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
