PHOTOS | Antioch has always been a hotbed for development

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — With development seemingly always around the corner for Antioch, the Nashville neighborhood’s future is top of mind for residents and Metro leaders alike. But how did the area get to be what it is today?

In 2010, U.S. Census data revealed that the 37013 ZIP code had a population of 78,406 — and it leapt to 96,379 by 2020. The area’s population growth has not stopped since then, either, with one estimate from PUMA USA as high as about 106,000. Anyone passing through can’t help but notice this most recent growth, but the history of development in the area runs much deeper than just the past decade.

Metro Archives’ digital collection reveals that Antioch has been a hotbed for development for decades. Some of the sites within these photographs have since been redeveloped. For example, one photograph features the site of a residential development underway along Blue Hole Road.

Although the archival photos were taken in 1994, Metro leaders announced continued roadway improvements in the area near Blue Hole Road as recently as last October…
