‘They know where to go’: Authorities warn of donation scam draining thousands from Nashville shoppers

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) —  Authorities are warning the public of a scam targeting shoppers across Davidson County.

According to the Metro Nashville Police Department, groups of young people pretend to collect donations for school or sports fundraisers, but victims say their accounts are drained of thousands of dollars.

“People want to help, they know that there’s organizations out there, legitimate organizations, that rely on donations and fundraisers,” said Lt. Chad Young with MNPD’s Fraud Unit.
