Celebrate Martin Luther King in Music City

Celebrating Martin Luther King Jr. Day in Nashville is a meaningful way to honor the legacy of a leader who fought for equality, justice, and civil rights. With its rich history in the civil rights movement, Nashville offers a range of activities for many days before and after the holiday to reflect on Dr. King’s contributions. From the poignant exhibits at the National Museum of African American Music to the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day March, and more, the city comes together to commemorate his vision of a more just and unified society. It’s a time to remember the past, come together as a community, and continue the work of progress with events encouraging reflection, education, and action.

Events organized by the Interdenominational Ministers Fellowship (IMF) run Sunday, January 11 through Monday, January 19, all focused on honoring Dr. King’s legacy, promoting unity, and supporting community initiatives like HBCU education. The Women of Faith Panel 2026: “Legacy in Her Hands – Women of Faith Keeping the Dream Alive” features Rev. Kelli X and Rev. Sondrea Tolbert, 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm Sunday, January 11 at Scarritt Bennett Center, 1027 18 th Avenue South, Nashville; a special MLK Worship Service at Lee Chapel AME Church, hosted by Pastor Harold M. Love, Jr. with Speaker Dr. Derrick Jackson and Guest Dr. Omaran Lee is Wednesday, January 14 from 6:30 pm to 8 pm CST; the annual Youth Symposium and Intergenerational Panel at Martin Luther King Jr. Magnet High School is Saturday, January 17 from 8:30 am to 2 pm CST. Monday, January 19, a Youth Rally at Jefferson Street Missionary Baptist Church from 8 am to 9 am CST leads into a spirited March down historic Jefferson Street to the Annual Convocation in the TSU Gentry Center from 10:00 am -12:30 pm.

The annual MLK Gala is a black-tie event at the Hutton Hotel, supporting the IMF Community Fund Education Reserve for HBCU students. This unforgettable evening honors the life, legacy and lasting impact of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – a night of elegance, purpose and powerful reflection on Thursday, January 15, 2026, 6:30 pm.
