NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — As we approach America’s 250th birthday, we’re taking you from neighborhood to nation, spotlighting the places that quietly helped shape our country while celebrating U.S. History, culture, innovation and community spirit along the way.

This week, we land in Cheatham County, at a site once so critical in the Civil War, it became a military target.

The historic Sycamore Dam and gunpowder mill is on the National Registry. Right now, the private land owners are spending millions of dollars to acquire, restore, and preserve the site.

Tucked along the Sycamore Creek, just outside Ashland City, all these centuries later there’s still a very important story to tell…
