Chancellor’s order gives public ‘a fuller understanding’ of TN execution process

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — A Davidson County chancellor has ordered state prison officials to allow official witnesses to see more of the process when an inmate is put to death.

Several media groups including the Associated Press and TEGNA Inc., the parent company of WBIR, sued the warden of Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville and the head of the Tennessee Department of Correction in October for greater access. Attorney Paul McAdoo with the Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press prepared the case.
