Group of Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital nurses form snow plan to remain with patients

Lindsey Greene and some of her best friends arrived at Ascension Saint Thomas Hospital Midtown last Friday night looking like many of the patients do when they arrive – carrying suitcases and snacks for an extended stay.

But Greene and the rest of that group are nurses in the hospital’s obstetrical emergency department and they were prepared to live near the hospital and take extra shifts to help out during a massive snow and ice storm that struck Middle Tennessee last weekend.

The Nashville area saw two inches of snow which turned to freezing rain and single-digit temperatures over the weekend and the early part of the week. Every school district in the state closed for at least two days. Many residents lost electrical power when ice-covered trees and branches fell on the power lines…
