‘We have many people in need’: Generators, supplies distributed in North Nashville after winter storm

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A long line formed outside Jefferson Street Missionary Baptist Church Tuesday morning as groups worked together to distribute generators and other supplies to those in need.

As of 11 a.m., more than 130,000 Nashville Electric Service customers remain without power after a winter storm swept across Middle Tennessee.

To help meet the needs of some residents, the National Baptist Convention, USA Home Mission and World Vision collaborated to send a tractor-trailer full of generators and other supplies, such as water and diapers, to North Nashville.

Pastor James Clay of New Visions Baptist Church was at the event Tuesday morning and said the partnership aims to provide hope to those who are struggling following the winter storm.

“We have many people in need and a lot of people without power, even at this moment,” expressed Clay. “As a response to that, the National Baptist Convention in collaboration with World Vision actually coordinated a truck to come in, bringing various items that can be utilized in bad weather events that we are experiencing, and with so many people going without power, just the thought of getting a generator can give someone the hope that they didn’t have when they started this morning.”…
