Mayor fires Steve Martini, suspended head of emergency communications

Steve Martini, the suspended director of Nashville’s Department of Emergency Communications, has been terminated from his position.

A spokesperson with Mayor Freddie O’Connell’s office confirmed Martini’s firing to The Tennessean on Feb. 2. Martini was put on leave in early January following the release of an investigation outlining systemic issues with the department’s handling of complaints to human resources.

O’Connell asked for Martini’s resignation nearly a month ago on Jan. 9, to which he refused. Civil service disciplinary proceedings began a week later, and Martini received a hearing. It resulted in a dismissal…
