NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A woman found dead along Sulpher Creek Road in 2018 has been identified, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.
In a Wednesday press release, the MNPD said a motorist discovered the body in an advanced stage of decomposition. She was wearing a black sweatshirt and athletic pants with a Vanderbilt University emblem on them. The department and the Medical Examiner’s Office could not identify the woman.

The University of North Texas Center for Human Identification developed a DNA profile that was entered into a national database, but there were no matches. However, in 2022, new samples were collected for Forensic Investigative Genetic Genealogy analysis. That same year, those samples were sent to a lab that developed a comprehensive DNA profile that was later updated to Family Tree DNA and GED Match Pro. Last September, DNA Investigative Solutions also began doing research in this case.
As a result of these combined efforts, the body was identified as Yadezia Jones of Nashville, who would have been 25 years old at the time of discovery. The cause and manner of her death remain undetermined, police added. She had no ties to Vanderbilt University.
