Nashville families launch petition demanding NES pay for ice storm damages

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Nashville families said they spent thousands of dollars trying to get through the ice storm and massive power outage, with many now demanding Nashville Electric Service to help cover their losses.

Scott Coy said it cost around $600 to restock his entire kitchen after a week without power in Sylvan Park. His family of five spent seven nights in a hotel before running out of money in their budget, but, luckily, their power returned just as they were trying to figure out what to do next.

“The costs started to add up. Three meals a day out. Three children entertaining them,” Coy said. “My wife and I both work full time, so we were trying to manage very hectic schedules with very small rooms with three kids jumping on beds. It started getting pretty long in the tooth.”

Recovery expenses reach $1,000

The costs extended beyond the hotel stay and spoiled food. Coy said his family needed a plumber to restart their pipes after they cut off their water and drained the house to prevent a freeze…
