REPORT: Most counties in Tennessee have seen job loss since the COVID-19 pandemic

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — The University of Tennessee Boyd Center for Business and Economic Research has submitted their economic report to Gov. Bill Lee for 2026 — and they found job losses have increased since 2019.

The report found that since 2019, about a third of Tennessee’s counties lost jobs. Though the counties surrounding the Nashville Metro area saw the most job growth, rural counties have been dealing with economic slowdowns.

Researchers think some of the loss can be attributed to people leaving those counties due to their infrastructure. Dr. Larry Kessler with the UT Boyd Center for Business & Economic Research previously told lawmakers that the population’s health matters, too…
