Ice storm cleanup: Out-of-state tree crews near end of month-long Nashville effort

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – More than a month after the deadly ice storm hit Middle Tennessee, cleanup crews from across the country are still working through Nashville neighborhoods — but the end is in sight.

Kravitz Tree Service, a small business from outside Buffalo, New York, has been on the ground since late January, cutting down splintered and broken branches from trees more than 700 miles from home. Debris piles continue to grow along roadsides as crews work from sunrise to sunset.

‘A whole different world’

Foreman Cody Dustin led the same crew through East Tennessee following Hurricane Helene, but said the ice storm damage was the worst he has ever seen.

“When we first got down, we didn’t really know what we were getting into,” Dustin said. “We’re used to snow at home. Five or six inches of snow is just another day in Western New York. The ice here was a whole different world. It was dangerous. The hills, power lines were everywhere.”…
