‘Soul’ closes location Charlotte Pike, citing property tax hike

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Another Nashville restaurant is closing its doors, and the owner has blamed high property taxes for driving the final nail in the coffin.

For four years, “Soul” has served the Nashville community, but they’re closing the doors of their Charlotte Pike location. Owner John Smith said he signed a three-year lease on the property. Once that lease ended, he was told the rent would increase by 50%. He couldn’t afford to keep the property. Now, the only location left is in Antioch.

Despite the closure of the Charlotte Pike location, Smith’s in good spirits, and he knows his business will continue to grow.

“We had a great run there,” Smith said. “But the situation — time has changed. The economy has changed, and there’s a lot going on in my city right now with property taxes.”…
