When John Nelson died last month, he was found alone in an alley in an unfamiliar town, according to his heartbroken loved ones, who had reported him missing days earlier.
“I feel like everybody who came in contact with John just probably judged him,” friend Erika Klasse tells PEOPLE. “But he didn’t choose that. He had a home and he was trying to make his way back.”
Nelson was born and raised in Minnesota and led a troubled existence for most of his 56 years, but friend Klasse, 35, says he found stability in the last few years with his faith, friends, family and his beloved bunny Ice Cream…
