Nashville Man Charged After Firing Into Airbnb Residence

A 20-year-old Nashville man is facing a stack of charges after deputies say he fired a pistol into a DeKalb County home being used as an Airbnb, damaging the property and terrifying people nearby. Andre Lorenzo Roberts is accused of possession of a handgun while under the influence, reckless endangerment, aggravated assault, vandalism and underage consumption of alcohol. The arrest followed a deputy’s response to what authorities described as a domestic-assault complaint, and Roberts is being held on a $20,000 bond as the case moves through the courts. Officials say the gunfire left witnesses in fear.

DeKalb County Sheriff Patrick Ray told reporters that on Sunday, March 1 a deputy was sent to a residence on Shady Place after calls about a gun-related domestic dispute. Witnesses told deputies Roberts fired a pistol into the dwelling, causing damage both inside and outside the Airbnb, and officers reported that he “smelled of alcohol” and admitted he had been drinking before the incident. Deputies recovered a Taurus G2C 9-millimeter pistol in the driver’s seat of Roberts’ vehicle, and Ray said Roberts acknowledged the gun belonged to him, as reported by WJLE Radio.

Charges and state law

The counts Roberts faces line up with specific provisions of Tennessee law. It is an offense to possess a handgun while under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance under T.C.A. § 39-17-1321, and reckless endangerment can be elevated to a felony when it involves discharging a firearm into a habitation under T.C.A. § 39-13-103. Those statutory provisions and their penalties are set out in the Tennessee code, per Justia and Justia.

Roberts, 20, has bond set at $20,000 and is scheduled to make a court appearance on March 19, according to WJLE Radio. Deputies say the investigation remains active and additional information may be released as detectives continue to interview witnesses and document property damage…
