NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Multiple Tennessee agencies have teamed up during National Distracted Driving Awareness month to launch “Operation Hands Free” to increase patrols and educate Tennesseans about the dangers and consequences of distracted driving.
According to the Tennessee Department of Safety & Homeland Security, there’s a crash involving a distracted driver about every 43 minutes in the state.
“What happens is people are in a rush, and they get distracted; they get distracted with drinking coffee in the morning, putting on last-minute makeup or even just looking over at their passengers,” Lieutenant Jen Hicks with the Tennessee Highway Patrol said. “It’s the small distractions that take our eyes off the road that’s causing crashes.”…
