NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A Nashville father who is charged in the death of his 6-year-old son is now facing a federal gun charge, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Middle District of Tennessee.
Steven Lamont Phillips, 56, was charged Wednesday with possession of a weapon by a previously convicted felon in connection to the death of his 6-year-old son Steven Lamont Ricks.
Phillips was watching Ricks on Saturday afternoon, but he told police he fell asleep after playing with his son in the living room. The gun had been in his pocket and he woke up to the sound of a gunshot and found his son bleeding on the ground.
