Wintry blast overtakes Midstate early Sunday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – Warmer weather will develop early this week.

The coldest weather in more than a month took hold of Middle Tennessee early Sunday morning. Temperatures haven’t dipped so low since late March — 35 days ago.

Nashville’s temperature dropped into the upper 30s (i.e. 39°). It missed the record low for the date by just two degrees — 37°, set on May 3, 2005.

For those wondering if this is one of the latest dates it’s gotten this cold in Nashville, the answer is no. In fact, on May 30, 1984, Nashville International Airport cooled to 38°, so clearly even late May has a history of turning chilly…
