NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – The Nashville Humane Society is assisting with the evacuation of animals as wildfires continue to scorch more than 55,000 acres in Southeast Georgia.
According to maps by Western Fire Chiefs, there are currently two major wildfires in Southeast Georgia — the Highway 82 Fire and the Pineland Road Fire, which started on April 20 and April 18, respectively.
Highway 82 is the smaller of the two fires, burning nearly 22,500 acres in the latest update. That fire is estimated to be 75% contained. Pineland Road has burned more than 32,500 acres and is at 44% contained.
There is also a wildfire just south of the state’s border. That fire, the Sargent Fire, has consumed more than 2,500 acres in Florida and is at 81% containment…
