NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — A New Orleans woman is accused of seeking $1.3 million through Covid-19 relief fraud.
According to the Eastern District of Louisiana, 44-year-old Amanda Clayborne-Williams is charged with wire fraud and tax evasion. Between April 2020 and January 2021, Clayborne-Williams allegedly submitted 12 false and misleading applications for loans through the Paycheck Protection Program and the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program, seeking $1.3 million.

It is alleged that Clayborne-Williams received around $447,305.98 through fraud. Officials accuse her of then using these funds for personal and unauthorized expenses, including a mortgage payment for a personal residence. In addition, she is accused of attempting to evade paying income taxes by filing a false form with the IRS in November of 2022, which allegedly understated her monthly income and assets.
If convicted of wire fraud, Clayborne-Williams faces up to 20 years in prison. If convicted of tax evasion, she could face up to five years in prison. Each count also carries up to three years of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000…
