Former NOPD officer resigns from Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office after scrutiny over past firing

Questions are being raised about how a former New Orleans police lieutenant who was fired for sexual harassment was hired by the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office before resigning Thursday night.

According to the relief letter we obtained, state Civil Service officials upheld the termination of former NOPD Lt. Anthony Bakewell after finding he engaged in sexual misconduct involving a subordinate officer.
