French Quarter restaurant Café Sbisa closes permanently due to Decatur Street construction

French Quarter restaurant Café Sbisa is closing permanently, its owners said Sunday, after business at the French-Creole fine-dining establishment suffered due to the long-running construction project on lower Decatur Street.

In a social media post, the restaurant said that after exploring “every option to remain open, the ongoing construction ultimately made it impossible to continue.”

“We, the Napoli and Singleton Families, fought to keep a historic New Orleans institution alive through grief, economic challenges, and nearly a year of construction disruption,” the post said. “While Café Sbisa may be closing its doors, the larger conversation is whether the city of New Orleans can afford to lose the very small businesses that makes it unique.”

Craig Napoli, who co-owned the restaurant with New Orleans chef Alfred Singleton until Singleton’s death in March, said in an interview that they couldn’t wait any longer on the city to finish the street construction…
