Another inmate mistakenly released due to filing error, the Orleans Sheriff says

NEW ORLEANS — An Orleans Justice Center inmate is back in custody after he was accidentally released due to a filing error, the sheriff’s office revealed on Monday.

According to an OPSO spokesperson, a judge mistakenly issued the release of 19-year-old Seth Butler at the end of May, due to time served and a suspended sentence in his adult criminal case. Though the Louisiana Office of Juvenile Justice had previously asked the sheriff’s office to keep Butler detained after his adult case was resolved, so he could be transferred to the juvenile justice center.

OPSO said the OJJ’s request for a detainer was never added to Butler’s OPSO file…
