Another inmate was mistakenly released from the New Orleans jail and out for days before officials realized the error and brought the man back to lockup on Monday, according to the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office.
Seth Butler, 19, was released from the Orleans Justice Center on May 30 after pleading guilty to several drug, weapon and other charges stemming from an arrest in August 2025, according to the OPSO. Orleans Parish Criminal Court Judge Simone Levine suspended Butler’s sentence, giving him credit for time served, and issued his release following his guilty plea on May 29.
More than a week went by before OPSO officials were informed Monday by the Office of Juvenile Justice that a detainer had been placed on Butler in February, preventing his potential release from jail. Butler was on juvenile probation when he was arrested as an adult in 2025…
