NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Former Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson entered her plea Friday morning, July 10, for charges related to the 2025 jail escape.
In the court room of retired Judge Dennis Waldron, Hutson pleaded not guilty to the 30-count indictment including charges of malfeasance, maintaining false records and obstruction of justice, after 10 Orleans Justice Center inmates escaped on May 16, 2025.
The plea comes after multiple judges recused themselves. Judge Leon Roché recused himself in May, based on what he said were allegations contained in the warrant against other judges in the court system.
New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno withdrew bond commission application, stating ‘denial was imminent’
A second judge recused themself in June.
Co-defendant and former Chief Financial Officer Bianka Brown also entered a not guilty plea…
